On some reservations, Indigenous people face a lack of electricity, running water, and medical care. Native Americans experience higher rates of police brutality, domestic violence, homelessness, poverty, unemployment, low academic achievement, and dropping out of school. Indigenous women are regularly trafficked, abducted, and/or murdered. They experience racism while having their culture constantly appropriated. Many people do not believe or know that Native Americans still exist because Native American history is not taught in most U.S. schools. Tribal languages are dying out. Native people do not get as much support from the government as they need.
Build relationships with other Native people. Help preserve Native languages, history, and stories. Attend conferences and rallies. Pray and advocate for all tribal nations in the United States. Connect with Matthew Holgate or Blair Schlepp on the AIC campus to get more involved in Indigenous movements.
